Interesting that the Japanese players currently playing for MLB teams combined for exactly 0 hits (although Fukudome did gather 4 walks in the contest)

The fact that 22-year-old Darvish is starting over the veteran Matsuzaka, who shined on the world stage 3 years ago, tells you all you need to know about who the better pitcher is. Starting in the WBC opener is an honor, and a great platform to introduce us to perhaps the finest pitcher on the planet.

Daisuke Matsuzaka rose to the occasion in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. A year later, he was posted and signed with the Red Sox. It will be interesting to see if Darvish follows a similar path, despite his publical statement that he currently has no desire to come over to the United States.

Considering that he's currently making about $3 million per season, and could easily get into 8 figures a season starting in the Majors, you'd think he may be tempted.

In '04 we came on a tour of Japan from Uganda and our coach who had played for Tohoku took us to meet Yu's team, we also watched their game that afternoon. Great to know that he's now playing for Japan! wish you the Best!
