Bidding for posted Japanese pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma ended Friday, November 5, with the Seattle Mariners being a potential favorite. Seattle reportedly submitted a $13 million offer for the exclusive rights to negotiate with Iwakuma, widely considered to be the second best pitcher in Japanese baseball after Yu Darvish.

Darvish earlier this week indicated an interest in playing in North America in 2012.
